Literary Analysis #2

1.      In the book Mockingjay by Suzanna Collins, Katniss Everdeen has been rescued by the rebels from the 75^th Annual Quarter Quell Hunger Games. Katniss agrees to become “the Mockingjay”, for the rebels. The leader of the rebels, President Coin, agrees to let Katniss kill President Snow. The rebels recue Peeta from the Capital; however, he has been brained washed into hating Katniss. Rebels take over the Districts and start heading towards the Capitol. President Snow is captured and he tells Katniss that it was President Coin was the one who did something to her sister, Prim. She then finds out Gale was involved and cannot look at him the same. After the war, she returns home to District 12. Peeta returns as well. Twenty years later she is married to Peeta and has two children.

2.      The theme is to stay strong and don’t always trust the people you know.

3.      I chose this book because I have read the first book and the second. Once I started reading it, it started to get really intense and interesting. It wanted to make you keep reading.

4.      I thought this book was realistic because they fight for survival and many people work really hard so they can survive. I can relate to a character Peeta because when I try to do something I tend to give up but then I keep on going and complete it.

5.      The tone of this book is very suspenseful and serious.

Characterization

1.      Direct characterization: “They are white, four-limed, about the size of a full grown human.” “He was mad because he couldn’t remember anything.” Indirect characterization:  “When boggs died, she fell down on her knees and put her had down.” “He slammed the gun on the table and yelled.”

2.      The author’s syntax does not change when she focuses on a character. She does not change the mood. Only when it is getting to the suspenseful part.

3.      The protagonist is a dynamic and round character. Katniss is a dynamic character because she changes her way of fighting in the war with the rebels so she starts to train and take things seriously.

4.      I think I met a person and watch them go through many difficult times and see how they change over time.

Enduring Memory

One thing I would remember from reading this book is that people go through many difficult things and have to make big sacrifices to accomplish something. Also, that trust can make you believe that you are safe but sometimes you are not.
