Dialectical Journalling

“I was over joyed to have a place of my own and this reassured me.” (247.6)

1.       When I spent a month in Mexico and finally came back home to my room it felt like home.
2.       “I spent a good part of the night in the emptiness, just happy to be there.” (247.7) she missed her room so much that she laid there and thought.
3.       The significance of her room is her having her own space and being by herself where she won’t be disturbed.
4.       This symbolizes peace because she is in her home.
5.       This connects to the theme because she returns home where she grew up and there will always be a home.



Question: Why does Marji go out for a walk and then gets scared?

She thinks about all the dead victims from the war.

Literature Analysis

1. In Catching Fire, by Suzanna Collins two people make it back from the hunger games for the first time. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the first two victors in the history of the hunger games to come out both alive. When Katniss and Peeta go on their victor tour, Katniss notices that there is an uprising in district 8. Katniss decides not to tell anyone but she accidentally tells Gale. Katniss plans to run away and asks Gale but he says no. She also asks Peeta and he is willing too, but they never end up running away. After a couple of weeks the 75th Quarter Quell announcement is made, which is strange because it wasn’t reaping time yet. The past victors of the hunger games will have to participate once again in the games. During the games several tributes form an alliance and plan to rebel from the capitol.

2. Themes:
-Fight for what is right: Katniss and Peeta rebel against the capital because they are tired of how they treat them.
-Survival: Everyone does anything to protect each other and survive.
3. Tone:

The authors tone in the story is very dramatic and serious. The mood makes the story get intense throughout the book. For example the narrator says “My muscles are clenched tight against the cold”. This indicates that the narrator is very tense. During the hunger games it gets really intense because you want to know what will happen next or what while happen to Katniss or Peeta. It gets serious when they are discussing about who will go to the hunger games because it is a very difficult situation.
