Antigone compare and contrast essay

In the play Antigone, Antigone breaks a law that King Creon has made. Now she has to face her consequence. Antigone is punished with death but she does not care because she is proud of what she’s done.
Antigone and Creon have many differences throughout the story, Antigone is loyal to her family. (2, 78) Antigone says, “Think death less than a friend? This death of mine is no importance; but if I had left my brother lying in death unburied, I should have suffered.” She says that she doesn’t care if she dies or not. She buried her brother and that’s all she needed to do. Antigone is also loyal to the gods. In scene two Antigone says “It was not gods proclamation. That final justice that rules that work below makes no such laws.” She says that no gods made such laws that Creon made. She respects the gods by following there laws and obeying them. Creon is really loyal to the state. (3, 110) Creon says “The state is king.” He respects the laws and the state more than his family. He thinks that the state and laws is king and should obey them. Creon is not loyal to his family. Creon doesn’t care about Antigone or her brother. He does not want anyone to burry Antigone’s brother.
Antigone and Creon share and have different similarities. They also both have pride. In (2, 59) Antigone says “I do deny nothing.” This demonstrates pride because she is proud of what she did. She is not regretful. In scene two Antigone acts very prideful of what she has done. In (1, ) Creon says, “and yet you dare defy the law.” Creon made the law that no one shall bury Antigone’s brother. This shows his disloyalty to his family. Antigone and Creon both share some similarities in pride.
In the end, each character has the blame for the tragic ending. If Creon would have been more loyal to his family he wouldn’t have sentenced Antigone to death. If Antigone would have denied about her burying her brother she would not be dead. But in the end both of them have their differences and it doesn’t end well.

  1. the intro does not capture what the essay is about! You only wrote about Antigone, but not Creon! Overall it was pretty good just elaborate a little more next time.
